"This is a serious incident": Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 devs Warhorse hit by cyberattack targeting their systems and data

Warhorse Studios, the developer behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, has confirmed that it was the target of a cyberattack aimed at gaining access to its systems and data. The studio, which is also working on a Lord of the Rings role-playing game, described the incident as serious and said it is focused on securing its systems and understanding exactly how the attack took place.

The company has said it is currently working to determine the full extent of the impact. In its statement, Warhorse framed the response as a two-part effort: first, making sure its defences are restored and fully secured, and second, establishing the precise sequence of events that allowed the intrusion to occur. The studio has not publicly disclosed what data, if any, was accessed or who was responsible.

Warhorse is best known for the Kingdom Come franchise, a historically grounded role-playing series set in medieval Bohemia. The sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, has drawn a large following among players of narrative-driven action RPGs, and the studio's current development work on a Lord of the Rings game places it among the more closely watched independent developers in the sector. Attacks on game studios have become increasingly common as development pipelines, unreleased builds and internal communications grow more valuable to criminal groups.

For the wider games industry, the incident is a reminder that studios hold sensitive material beyond finished products, including source code, design documents and player-facing services. Warhorse has not indicated whether the attack has affected its release schedules or its existing players. Further updates are expected as the studio completes its investigation and reports its findings.
