A bomb threat reported on a flight from London Heathrow has led to the temporary closure of part of Warsaw Modlin airport in Poland, with security forces still checking the area where the aircraft was parked. The airport has since resumed operations, but the section where the London flight came down remains shut while the checks continue.

The LOT Polish Airlines flight was due to land at Warsaw Chopin Airport but was diverted to Modlin as a result of the threat. The aircraft was carrying 181 passengers and was forced to make an emergency landing after the reported bomb alert. Emergency crews were deployed to the runway and surrounding area while the aircraft was secured, and the incident drew a heavy response from the emergency services on the ground.

Reports also described police investigating a second plane in connection with the incident, though details of that inquiry were limited in the material available. It was not confirmed whether the second aircraft was directly linked to the threat on the London flight, and no information had been released on the nature of the alert or whether it had been connected to any individual or group.

The incident came on a day when European security was already in focus. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was holding talks in Berlin with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Zelenskyy said the discussions would focus on diplomatic coordination on air defence and the energy sector, and he stressed a shared interest in security, stability and protecting the rules-based international order, adding that these principles must be turned into concrete decisions and actions.

Passengers were not reported to have been harmed, and the airport has returned to normal operations outside the cordoned area. Authorities are expected to release further findings once the security checks are complete, and the wider effect of the closure on travellers using Modlin, which serves as a secondary airport for the Polish capital, had not been detailed in the reporting available.
