The former BBC Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood has been charged with two further sexual offences against two more women, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed. The 68-year-old is accused of indecently assaulting a girl aged 16 or 17 in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in 1991, and of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in 2004.
Westwood will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on a date to be fixed. The additional charges add to a growing list of allegations against the veteran broadcaster, who has already faced court proceedings in connection with other alleged offences. He appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London in December as part of that separate case.
The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the new charges following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police. The force said the allegations relate to two separate complainants and to incidents more than a decade apart, one at the start of the 1990s and the other in the mid-2000s.
Westwood, who was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, became one of the best-known voices in British hip-hop broadcasting. He presented a long-running show on BBC Radio 1 and later worked for Radio 1Xtra, building a reputation as a champion of rap and grime music. He left the BBC in 2013 and subsequently presented programmes on commercial stations including Capital Xtra.
The charges are the latest development in a wider police inquiry into historical sexual offence allegations involving the former DJ. That investigation has been running for several years and has already produced a number of charges, which Westwood has previously indicated he intends to contest.
